Final digital design proccess part 1 - Project Development
This will be the process of me creating the final digital design on SketchUp.
I am using the website version of Sketchup so after I signed in, I opened a new document.
To start the design, I selected the circle shape tool to create a circle by going to the left bottom of the toolbar, clicking on the three dots, and then on the first tool from the second row of the box.
Then I drew a line in the middle of the circle and then dragged that line upwards and then diagonally down to create sort of an arrow shape. I did that with the pencil tool and after I erased the half of the circle by clicking on it and then clicking on "erase.
After the half water drop shape was created I selected the push and pull tool from the left toolbar and then clicked on the shape and dragged it backward to give it depth.
Then I started creating the wave part with the free-hand pencil tool, I got that from the toolbox by clicking on the three-dot button on the left bottom side of the page. I drew a wavy line a few times until I liked the result and then connected it to create the shape.
Then I moved it by selecting the shape with the "select" tool and then moved it with the "move tool", both from the left toolbar. Then pulled backward for depth with the pull and push tool.
After the main shape was done I started creating the terrace and design of the edges of the wave. I created a square frame on top of the left edge of the wave for the terrace with the pencil tool.
After I created the shapes of the columns, I used the pull and push tool to give them depth
Then after that, I started creating different triangle shapes only on the surface of the building with the pencil tool.
Then after all the triangles were done I used the push and pull tool again, to give them some depth and texture so it wouldn't be a flat surface.
After that, I started applying the materials. For the glass parts, I chose coloured glass in shades of blue and clear, with grey metals and some white to break the repeated pattern. I found the materials by going to the right settings bar and clicked on materials and picked mine from the "glass and mirrors" and "metal" categories.
On some of the extended edges of the triangles, I added metal framing so they could be more visible and separated from blending with the rest colours.
Then in the next picture, I added material for the wave part and the columns. For this, I picked two marble materials from the "stone" category.
This is the final result of part 1 of the final design. In the next part, I will be adding the terrace, the entrance, create the environment and add some more details.
Clear process post showing how the two main elements (drop and 'wave') balance within the design. Something we didn't discuss at your tutorial is the design of the columns - which materials are intended for this element and what fills the space between each one?
