Week 5 Sketch Up designs part 2 / process - project development

This is part 2 of sketching my design for my project on Sketch Up. This time i tried to add the window/exterior design which I had some trouble with but completed. Here is the process and result.

I followed the same steps as last time, first opening a new document by clicking on "create new"

I added my base using the pencil tool on the left toolbar by creating a square and then picked up the 'rectangle' tool with the circle shape option to create two circles for the tower.

I then heightened the shapes to create the towers by selecting the push/pull tool from the same toolbar, clicked on the circles, and dragged them upwards to the height I wanted them to.

For the next part, I used the pencil tool again but this time with the 'freehand' option so I could create the free shapes outlined for the windows. This was a little harder to do because I kept messing up the shapes but I ended up achieving the shapes close enough.

Then for the next part, I had some trouble as well, here I wanted to fill in the blanks with materials which was ok at first, and completed the very bottom of the first tower by going to the right toolbar and clicking on materials and then chose a black rock material from 'asphalt and concrete' category for the walls and the glass/mirror material from ' glass and mirror' category for the windows. After I started filling in the first parts, it wouldn't let me fill in the other ones and it kept covering the whole tower with the same material. I checked all my lines for any gasps but they were all connected and all the shapes were closed but I still couldn't continue with the materials after checking again to try to solve the problem. I ended up deciding to fill the rest of the parts using photoshop with paint tools, which gave me somehow the result I wanted with the colours but not close to the quality as the actual materials, which would have helped to make the parts look like actual window glass and walls. Before that, I also added the top ceiling exterior design with the pencil tool again and also the grass material from the materials, "landscape fencing and vegetation" category, for the base. This is the result of the second try-out sketch.

This was my second try to sketch my design on sketch up with more detail, even tho I tried to add the window structure, this still is not my final sketch, and will develop it even more in the next part and then the final design. Next, I will try to recreate the structure better to try to avoid the material problem and look to see what I can fix for the design to look better.
