Final Digital Design process part 2 / results - Project Development

This is part 2 of creating the final digital design on SketchUp.

First, I started creating an entrance. I decided to place it on the right side of the wave and it would also be used as a canopy for people when they would walk in. I selected the pencil tool from the toolbar on the left side and created a rectangle.

Then drew two sliding doors with the pencil tool and selected a metal material for the frames of it and glass for the doors. I chose the materials by going to the right setting bar and clicked on materials and picked them from the "glass and mirrors" and "metal" categories.

Then I decided to add the triangle pattern on the terrace side as well. I did that again with the pencil tool and then used the same materials I used on the rest of the triangles and also used the push and pull tool from the left toolbar to give the same texture.

After that, I went to the left side of the building to choose a material for that wall. Since it was curved I couldn't use the same pattern and also wanted to use something plain so it wouldn't be too overwhelming. i was thinking of what I could use and tried different materials but ended up deciding on a simple metal again to match some of the materials.

Then I started creating the environment by creating a base and trying to create some curved lines for the nearing ocean. I picked some materials like glass and water from the "Landscaping, fencing, vegetation" and "water" categories. later on, I changed it a bit.

In the next picture, I drew a pathway base with the pencil tool for the entrance under the canopy.

Then I started working on the terrace, I added the base floor with the pencil tool and then added walls around it for later when I'll choose a railing.

Then I drew on the doors for the terrace and created 2 sliding doors, I added the same material as the entrance, metal, and glass.

After the doors, I started looking for railings. At first, I was creating the same visuals as the door with metal framing and glass but I didn't like how it looked so I decided on full glass railings.

After that, I started fixing up the environment again by placing some stone/rock grounds with the grass and adding some trees. I removed the sky walls and instead selected the "Landscape architectural style 1" from the style setting on the right toolbar which changed the background colours. I also extended the ocean part and applied a deeper blue water material to make it a little more realistic.

This is the final result of my digital design sketch but any further added details or changes will be updated in the process.

This is my design with the oceanic theme, it is called Nore and it is a 10-level office building with an exterior wave that's flowing attached to a half-water drop shape structure. On the extended edges of the wave, there is a terrace supported by columns on the left and a covered entrance on the right edge. The wave part along with the columns will be covered by marble while the rest will be all metal/aluminium and clear/coloured glass that will be covering all the triangle-shaped windows/walls. This will be located in Paphos, Cyprus in the Chloraka area, it will be near the ocean so the glass walls will provide amazing views as well as a lot of natural lighting. The materials chosen provide the required support and resitsence to any weather conditions and damages, there will also be integrated AC/Heating systems in the ceilings.

  1. This is a big step from the last time you showed your progress. In the last tutorial we discussed the potential location alteration and 'mocking up' your design in its potential environment - have you got any further with that?

The terrace with glass surround should be a viewing terrace - it faces the harbour/archaeological site and the sea.
