Galaxy Soho - Research

 Galaxy Soho is an office and commercial building designed by architects Zaha Hadid and Patrick Schumacher. It was built in 2009-12 and it is located in Beijing, China. This building is made out of 4 "dome" structure parts and they are connected by ongoing bridges and curved platforms that create a "central canyon", designed like this to create a sense of "immersion and envelopment" with flowing dynamic movement structures. It is 67 meters and 332857 m²  and covers 46,965 m² of land,  each block is 15 floors, 12 being office floors and 3 retail floors with cafes, restaurants, and entertainment. It was inspired by Chinese architecture, specifically "Classical Chinese courtyards".  "Fiberglass-reinforced plastic", "glass-reinforced concrete" and "shipbuilding steel plates" materials were used to create a clean curve-looking exterior with an organic form structure. 3D Floorplan Process / Results - Project Development

This is my 3D floor plan process. To create this I used  Homestyler  and created the ground floor which is the reception along with some sitting areas.  First, I opened a new document and created the room by clicking on "create room" in the top left corner. Then I added two sliding doors for the entrance. I did that by going to the same setting "create room" and scrolled down to the "door and window" category and chose the sliding door option with the design I wanted.  Then I added full wall windows because I couldn't figure out how to create the triangle ones. (Later in the process I figured it out and included them) I found the windows from the same category. After the base was done I started placing furniture to test out the placements. For that I went to the "model library" setting which is the fourth icon on the left side, and then clicked on "catalog",  there were different furniture categories, I mostly used the "office...

3D Design Piece Process / Results - Project Development

This is my process of creating the first 3D piece. First, I created the outlines of my design digitally using AutoCAD and created a DFX  document. Then I visited the laser cutting workshop, where I laser cut the pieces. I chose pulpboard for the material, 1mm for the curving parts because it bends easily, and then 3mm for the rest of the pieces.  After all the pieces were cut I brought everything back to the studio.  I noticed some pieces were ruined during the cutting because of a cutting malfunction so for that reason I took the rest of the material that remained and tried to replace the ruined pieces by cutting it as carefully and precisely as possible with a craft knife. I also sandpapered the edges to be more smooth.  After all the extra pieces were cut, I tested out different techniques in which I would try to recreate the exterior.
