Week 5 further research

In week 5 of planning, I'm doing some more research.

Today I'm researching Rem Koolhaas, a Dutch architect who is known for his gravity-defying structures. His innovative and futuristic style has been setting standards for years, he thinks that "Terms like city, street, identity, and architecture are things of the past. The past is too small to live in". One of his famous works is the "De Rotterdam" building, this is a multifunctioning building, (a great work to look up to since my project revolves around multifunctional requirements as well), he describes his work as a "vertical city".

                                                                   The De Rotterdam

This building is located at Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam, he designed it in 1998 and it started at the end of 2009 and was finalized at the end of 2013. The stacked buildings of the De Rotterdam are organized in a subtly uneven cluster that resists unifying into a single shape and creates fascinating new views from various angles. The building's definition also varies based on the various uses it serves within. Both residents and people who work there can access and use the restaurants that are available in the building, gym facilities, cafes, etc. Rem Koolhaas said This is in contrast to so many other buildings in Rotterdam that are just singular entities. De Rotterdam has an ambitious agenda: to be a residential building, a place of work, a recreation center, and a hotel. For every component, we looked at how its circumstances, situation, and views could be best utilized. As a result, every part has a different character.” In terms of the materials, most of the exterior is made out of glass so all angles of the building are hit with natural light.

  1. This is not really research - the highlighted part is because you have just copied and pasted this into the page and you have not really researched this architects work well - look at research and look at use of materials, design and other aspects taht would be useful to you and your work
